VERGESSENE TÄNZER*INNEN//VERGESSENE ARCHIVE – 3 Workshops und Lecture  In der Veranstaltung Vergessene Tänzer*Innen// Vergessene Archive geht es um Lücken in Archiv-en, Tanzgeschichten und zeitgenössischen Tanzpraxen, die bestimmte Tänzer*Innen und ihre Errungenschaften, ihre Biographien und ihre Werke, aber auch spezifische Bewegungskulturen und künstlerische Traditionen unsichtbar machen. In Forgotten Dancers//Forgotten Archives we are looking at gaps in dance historiographies and contemporary dance practices, that render certain dancers and their achievements, certain movement and artistic practices, as well as certain archives invisible. Fr 2.7.2021 18h -19:30h Workshop (movement): Hari Krishnan (Wesleyan University, USA and InDANCE, Canada) Shifting Orientations: How Bharatanatyam’s „Other” Inspires Contemporary Movement Critically dismantling popular narratives about modern Bharatanatyam, participants learn aspects of Hari Krishnan’s unique creative process of creating choreographic material. (hybrid: online/Zoom und vor Ort möglich; Sprache Englisch; keine tänzerischen Vorkenntnisse nötig) Sa 3.7.2021  11h-13h: Workshop: Eike Wittrock (Kunstuniversität Graz) (vor Ort; Sprache: Deutsch) Archivkasten F 942n „Exot. Tanz“ Anhand der Reproduktion eines archivarischen Objekts, dem Kasten F 942n „Exot. Tanz“ der Tanzfotografie-Sammlung der Lipperheideschen Kostümbibliothek, werden in diesem Workshop das historische Klassifizierungsprinzip „Exotismus“ in seiner Bedeutung für die Tanzgeschichte untersucht. Die 26 Fotografien dieses Kastens stammen aus – für heutige Sicht – ganz unterschiedlichen Zusammenhängen, die zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts über eine Vorstellung des „aus der Ferne kommen“, zusammengeführt wurden. Welche Spuren dieser Klassifizierungspraxis finden sich in unserem heutigen Vorstellungen und Praktiken des Tanzens? Wie lässt sich kritisch und produktiv mit diesem Erbe umgehen? 15h-17h: Workshop (mit Bewegung): Franz Anton Cramer, Lina Venegas und Sandra Chatterjee (vor Ort; Sprache: Deutsch; keine tänzerischen Vorkenntnisse nötig) Remembering Nyota Inyoka: Körperliche und dialogische Arbeit mit Notaten gegen das Vergessen (live/deutsch) In diesem Workshop stellen Mitglieder des Forschungsteams Border-Dancing Across Time (Austri- an Science Fund: FWF 31958-G ) gemeinsam mit der Tänzerin und Choreographin Lina Venegas die fast vergessene Tänzerin und Choreographin Nyota Inyoka vor. Workshop-Teilnehmerinnen haben dann die Gelegenheit einen praktischen Einblick in Historie und tänzerisches Reenactment zu bekommen und gemeinsam mit dem Forschungsteam dialogisch und körperlich das Notat einer Choreographie Inyokas zu erkunden. Dr. Franz Anton Cramer is researcher with the Cluster of Excellence „Understanding Written Artefacts“ at Hamburg University. He works for PI Professor Gabriele Klein’s project “Choreographies of Archiving” (RFE05). Until March 2020 he was research collaborator in the FWF-funded project „Border-Dancing Across Time”. With Barbara Büscher he is editor of the e-journal „MAP – Media Archive Performance“ (www.perfomap.de) since 2009. Hari Krishnan is Chair and Professor of Dance at Wesleyan University and is also the artistic direc- tor of Toronto based company, inDANCE. He is a dancer, choreographer, and scholar whose work focuses on Bharatanatyam, contemporary dance from global perspectives, queer dance, and the interface between dance and film studies. Krishnan’s monograph, Celluloid Classicism: Early Tamil Cinema and the Making of Modern Bharatanatyam (Wesleyan University Press, 2019) won a spe- cial citation from the 2020 de la Torre Bueno© First Book Award Committee of the Dance Studies Association. The book has been hailed as “an invaluable addition to the scholarship on Bharatanatyam.” Lina Venegas is a Dancer and choreographer with engineering background. Her choreographic work focuses on cultural and social contents and it has been presented in Colombia, Austria, Japan and Ghana. She collaborated in environmental and cultural projects with both Colombian government and NGOs for six years. Since then she has been dedicated to performing arts, dancing with different companies, creating her own pieces and teaching in different contexts. Eike Wittrock is a dance historian and curator, currently Senior Scientist at the Centre for Gender Studies at the University for Music and Performing Arts Graz. His research focuses on 19th and 20th century European Dance, especially its iconographic sources, the politics of the archive, as well as the history of queer and exoticist performances in Germany.In 2014 Anna Wagner and Eike Wittrock founded the Julius-Hans-Spiegel-Zentrum, a critical curatorial project on German modern dance heritage. Named after the ‘forgotten’ dancer Julius Hans Spiegel, the project interrogated the gaps and voids of dance historiography in view of their contemporary implications. Focusing on the exoticisms of modernity/modernism the project raised questions of cultural appropriation and the implicit whiteness of the genealogy of the contemporary.
